Hoje em dia, as conversões de unidades mais comuns podem ser feitas com o auxílio de calculadoras e computadores, mas é importante que o aluno saiba usar uma tabela de conversão como as do Apêndice D. A Tabela 1-6 é parte de uma tabela de conversão para um sistema de medidas de volume que já foi comum na Espanha; um volume de 1 fanega equivale a 55,501 dm³ (decímetros cúbicos). Para completar a tabela, que números (com três algarismos significativos) devem ser inseridos
(a) na coluna de cahizes,
(b) na coluna de fanegas,
(c) na coluna de cuartillas e
(d) na coluna de almudes?

Passo 1: Compreendendo as relações entre as unidades

A tabela fornece as seguintes relações básicas:

• 1 \, \text{cahiz} = 12 \, \text{fanegas} = 48 \, \text{cuartillas} = 144 \, \text{almudes} = 288 \, \text{medios}
• 1 \, \text{fanega} = 4 \, \text{cuartillas} = 12 \, \text{almudes} = 24 \, \text{medios}
• 1 \, \text{cuartilla} = 3 \, \text{almudes} = 6 \, \text{medios}
• 1 \, \text{almude} = 2 \, \text{medios}

Agora, vamos preencher a tabela inversamente (ou seja, encontrar o valor de uma unidade menor em termos de uma maior).

Passo 2: Preenchendo a tabela

(a) Coluna de cahizes:

• 1 \, \text{fanega} = \dfrac{1}{12} \, \text{cahiz} \approx 0,0833 \, \text{cahiz}

• 1 \, \text{cuartilla} = \dfrac{1}{48} \, \text{cahiz} \approx 0,0208 \, \text{cahiz}

• 1 \, \text{almude} = \dfrac{1}{144} \, \text{cahiz} \approx 0,00694 \, \text{cahiz}

(b) Coluna de fanegas:

• 1 \, \text{cuartilla} = \dfrac{1}{4} \, \text{fanega} = 0,250 \, \text{fanega}

• 1 \, \text{almude} = \dfrac{1}{12} \, \text{fanega} \approx 0,0833 \, \text{fanega}

(c) Coluna de cuartillas:

• 1 \, \text{almude} = \dfrac{1}{3} \, \text{cuartilla} \approx 0,333 \, \text{cuartilla}

Passo 3: Convertendo 7,00 almudes

(e) Em medios:

(f) Em cahizes:

• 1 \, \text{almude} = \dfrac{1}{144} \, \text{cahiz}

(g) Em centímetros cúbicos (cm³):

• Sabemos que 1 \, \text{fanega} = 55,501 \, \text{dm}^3
• Como 1 \, \text{fanega} = 12 \, \text{almudes}, então:
  1 \, \text{almude} = \dfrac{55,501 \, \text{dm}^3}{12} \approx 4,62508 \, \text{dm}^3
  
• Agora, convertemos dm³ para cm³:
  1 \, \text{dm}^3 = 1000 \, \text{cm}^3
  1 \, \text{almude} = 4,62508 \times 1000 = 4625,08 \, \text{cm}^3
• Para 7,00 almudes:
  7,00 \, \text{almudes} = 7,00 \times 4625,08 \approx 32375,6 \, \text{cm}^3
